Fried Green Tomatoes just the thought of them makes my mouth water. I love them and almost consider them an Hors d'oeuvre. Actually they are at their very best right out of the pan hot, melt in your mouth good. A little tip be sure to use a totally green tomatoes.

Ingredients:
1 - 2 Solid Green Tomatoes
2 cups plain stone ground corn meal
1 cup self rising flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 egg
1 cup milk
vegetable or peanut oil for frying

Wash, dry and slice tomatoes 1/4 inch thick.
Mix cornmeal, flour, salt and pepper together in bowl that is large enough to coat the tomatoes.
Using a large shallow container beat the egg and add the milk. This will be used for dipping the tomatoes.

Heat small amount of oil in frying pan just enough to cover entire bottom of pan only.
Line up assembly line style: Sliced tomatoes, egg/milk dip, flour/cornmeal coating.
1. Dip in egg wash
2. Coat in flour mixture
3. Dip in egg wash again
4. Coat in flour mixture again shaking off excess flour
Place tomatoes in heated oil; cook until you see edges turning brown, then turn gently and brown other side.
Be sure to watch your oil so it does not overheat adjust as needed and remove crumbs from oil as you go to prevent burning.
When both sides are browned take out: You can place on a cooling rack that is placed over paper towels or waxed paper (they are crisper that way) or drain on paper towels.
Eat immediately for best flavor.
