Ball® FreshTECH Automatic Jam & Jelly Maker Review

Today I will be talking about the new jam & jelly maker I purchased recently.  I found mine at Sur la Table .  It was on sale at the time and I did debate buying this product.

I have made jam and jelly for so many years without something like this.  It is a hot, time consuming job but nothing that would warrant an appliance like this....To me this would be a luxury.

Nancy, a friend of mine had purchased one and kept showing the wonderful jams that she was making.  She said she really liked hers.  So when Carly let me know it was on sale I finally bought one.

We had lots and lots of Muscadines at home so that was the first jelly that I made with it.  The worse part about making this jelly is getting the juice from the grapes.  It is a little time consuming but so worth it.

Cooking away

First batch up

I only got a little over 3 half pint jelly jars in this batch.  I used the regular sure jell.  In a later batch I made the low sugar which used more fruit juice and got 4 jelly jars.  The low sugar actually tastes better in this jelly.  If you'd like my recipe for making it the regular way Muscadine Grape Jelly it is here.  When using the Ball® FreshTECH Automatic Jam & Jelly Maker it will have another recipe that works great with it!

REVIEW of  Ball® FreshTECH Automatic Jam & Jelly Maker

Pros

  1. It is easy to use and actually kinda fun too.
  2. The recipes are simple and made especially for this machine
  3. It has a timer and beeps to let you know when to add the sugar and when it is finished.
  4. You don't have to stand over it stirring, like you have to do normally with the heat getting to you.
  5. It enables you to go on off and do something else which is pleasant.  Just remember to stay close enough to hear the timer.
  6. It doesn't make a mess.
  7. In the time it takes to jar, water bath and wash things, this will have cooled and be ready for another batch.
  8. The jellies and jams set up very quickly I was impressed!  I like it no runny jams or jellies.

Con

  1. You can only get up to 4 half pint jelly jars of jam at a time.  If you have a huge quantity of jam to make it might be easier to do it the normal way, but then again you could use this little appliance in addition to making big batches.

I have made several batches of grape jelly and pear jam.  It is pleasant to use because you don't feel as if you've been in a steam room all day.  It takes longer to make a lot of jelly or jam but it doesn't feel like it.  If that makes any sense.

I like it!  Would I recommend it?  Yes I would, but keep in mind you can only make a small amount at the time.

Until next time..
