Grandmother used to take a roll out of the freezer and bake cookies every time we children would visit. Some of our fondest memories have been sitting around her table eating these cookies and talking to her. This recipe is in the book
In The Kitchen with Cecil Holiday Cookbook.
I know she would be so proud.

1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 ½ cups self-rising flour
1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
1 cup nuts chopped

This cookie dough has to be chilled or it can be frozen before baking.
Divide cookie dough into 3 or 4 equal size rolls. Wrap and freeze.
When ready for cookies take out a roll thaw just until they can be sliced. Slice thin about 1/8 “ thick
Bake 350 degrees 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
Cool slightly, remove from pan and serve.
Note**These are best if eaten freshly baked, they do not carry over well. The good thing is that with them in the freezer you can pull a roll out and have fresh baked cookies in no time at all!**

The recipe has become a Christmas tradition for our family and it keeps our Grandmother Johnson in our hearts always. I hope you enjoy this simple recipe as much as we do...
