Double Layer Chocolate Pie

Today I'm sharing a pie from the cookbook called Jell-0 brand Classic Recipes.  I cook so much from scratch until a recipe that is so simple to put together is called for.  It is especially good when the sometimes hectic and always busy holidays begin....

I love this little book.  Isn't the cover adorable?  My girls don't like jell-0 much so when I purchased this little book years ago they cringed.  I grew up on Jell-O, mama made it quite often for we children.  Everyone had it back then for sure.  I made lots from the book and tried them out on my girls.  They actually did like some of them but I overdosed them on the product....This recipe is simple and tastes good.

DOUBLE LAYER CHOCOLATE PIE

1/2 package (4 ounces) Philadelphia Cream Cheese softened
1 Tablespoon milk or half and half
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tub (8 ounces) Cool Whip Whipped Topping thawed
1 prepared chocolate flavor crumb crust
2 cups cold milk or half and half
2 packages (4-serving size) Jell-O Chocolate Flavor Instant Pudding & Pie Filling

**my notes** I don't like the instant so I used the cooking pudding.  You will have to cool it after you cook it though and then chill it before going on with the recipe.  You could use your own homemade chocolate pie filling if you have time...but today's post is about quick and easy.
I used a regular purchased deep dish pie shell. I've used the chocolate flavor crumb crust and it is delicious, but I had the regular on hand so I used it.**

MIX cream cheese, 1 tablespoon milk and sugar in large bowl with wire whisk until smooth.  Gently stir in 1 1/2 cups of whipped topping.
Spread onto bottom of crust.

POUR 2 cups milk into bowl.  Add pudding mixes.  Beat with wire whisk until well mixed  (mixture will be thick) Immediately stir in remaining whipped topping  Spread over cream cheese layer.

Refrigerate 4 hours or until set.  Garnish as desired.

Makes 8 servings.
