Aren't these eggs beautiful? They are an assortment from Marans, Rhode Island Reds, Americauna, White Rock, Barred Rock Hens. I love the varied colors. Join me today as we discuss the facts about Farm Fresh Eggs.
You probably already know it but just in case I'll tell you anyway. No matter what color the egg shell may be the egg will be the same inside. They say there is no difference in taste for that matter. I have to say though that I have some hens that lay my very favorite eggs. I have found at least out here that some of our hens lay eggs with harder shells. They just naturally have harder shells. They are the Americauna Hens that lay these beautiful blues and blue green eggs. Then I have some that have notoriously soft egg shells no matter how I add to their diet to improve. All are much better than the CAFO raised laying hens. Their color is so much darker and richer. The eggs simply put are about 100 times better than store bought eggs.
We get several double yolk eggs around here and actually several of the extra small egg white only eggs too. We have some with misshapen egg shells that look pretty grotesque but that is rarely, thank goodness.
I thought you would like to see what is inside the tiny eggs and see one of the biggest double yolk eggs we've ever gotten here.
How a Chicken Makes an Egg and Why Some Eggs Are Unusual is a very good article from The Chicken Chick on Grit. It is interesting so click the link to read.

It takes a commitment to take care of any animal and the same holds true for chickens. They need care and proper feeding to make these wonderful vitamin filled eggs. I find them to be a joy and of course mine have names.
If you have the room and an adventurous side to you have some backyard chickens. Did I tell you that they are very entertaining? They are, each one has their own personality.
