This is Leslie Reichert's Great Grandma
You may remember The posts done in the past about Leslie The Green Cleaning Coach and some of her tips and instructions for green cleaning.
She has an excellent book called The Joy of Cleaning click HERE to see book while you are there enjoy Leslie's How to Videos.
Today I am sharing her Great Grandma Baker's Laundry Soap. Leslie orders her soap flakes from London, until recently we didn't have them here. I have ordered those from her before and they work really well.
Today I am using Ivory Soap that has been opened and drying for about a week.
I grated the soap, then put a batch in the food processor to chop it up finely
and to mix all of the ingredients well.
You will need These ingredients:
(I have used the soap flakes before but today I used dry Ivory Soap Flakes)
1 cup baking soda
1 cup borax
1 cup washing soda
- Mix all the ingredients thoroughly, and then place in container with lid.
- This soap works best with hot water
- I used 2 tablespoons when I first made this and it cleaned well.
- Experiment with your wash according to how soiled and knowing how well your machine cleans. You'll soon find out what cleans and what does not.
- For top loading washing machines-use 1/4 to 2 cups for heavily soiled clothing...
- For front loading and HE machines use 2 tablespoons.
I'll update at a later date as to how it works for me.
**UPDATE IT WORKS PRETTY GOOD. FOR EXTREMELY SOILED ARTICLES ADD
BLEACH THAT IS SAFE FOR THE FABRIC.**
Thanks Leslie for all of your Green Cleaning Knowledge!
